Many Faces: On Identity, Immigration, and Coming of Age
“She stretches and shivers as she emerges from her cocoon. A few of her peers have already embarked on their new journeys, leaving their own mark on the world. But this transformation is one where time is not of the essence. She is now Hersharon and Hersh simultaneously.”

I walked out of my first women & gender studies class.
“I walked out of the first Women’s and Gender Studies class I ever took. It wasn’t because the professor said something to offend me or that it was an unsafe environment. I just didn’t feel like the class would have any impact on my life. Some of my family members congratulated me on my decision to major in sociology instead. “It’s better than turning into a man-hating feminazi!””

Event Review: Starlight Dash
“Amidst a small crowd of cheering supporters and cameras, an excited 10 year old waits hand in hand with her sister to start her toy shopping spree. Sadie Martin was one of the few children chosen across Canada for Starlight Children Foundation’s 3-minute shopping dash at the Toys-R-Us today. Accompanied by mascot ‘Captain Starlight’, Sadie and her sister Kendrie got the chance of the lifetime to run through the aisles of the Toys “R” Us and fill up their shopping carts with anything they saw on the shelves within the three minutes.”

Exercising Democracy: Questions for Municipal Candidates
“We’ve been given the opportunity to change what our municipal government looks like. And while the goal is not to have an all-woman councillor’s boardroom, it would be amazing to see the diversity of Edmonton reflected among our representatives. To be frank, diversity is such a diverse issue that even an accidental micro-aggression can feel akin to willingly contributing to a system of oppression. But, walking on eggshells around an important topic does not lead to progress.”

Stepping Up to a New Year — and a New Way of Thinking
“Every New Year’s, we see thousands of resolutions flood social media only to be abandoned a few days later. The need to start anew at the start of every year is so ingrained in all of us that even if we do not wish to, there’s a small part of us that want to improve ourselves as we step into the new year. So, rather than make another resolution that we resolve to do but eventually abandon, try out some of these suggestions that not only aim to better your life but the world around you as well.”

Where are the men?
““Could you send over articles or blogs I should read? I’m interested in being a feminist but I don’t really know how to get started.”
Looking around our classrooms, it is rare to find a male-identifying person attending WGS classes, let alone majoring in it. I am not trying to discount the presence of male-identifying folks that I see in my classes. Rather, I’m trying to address the lack of a male feminist presence on our campus.”
